Aftermath of No Way Out 2012 - Who Survived the Cage?

I t has been a week since No Way Out 2012. The pay- per- view was not one of the WWE’S best of the year. It had some “good” matches and some that were very forgettable. In this blog, I wanted to share my thoughts about the matches so here I go…

Brodus Clay vs. David Otunga

David has spent a lot of time assisting Johnny Laurinitis and like most lawyers, talking.  I think that it was about time that he got some in ring action. I liked the idea of him attacking Brodus’ leg prior to the ppv. It made the match seem somewhat meaningful. The disappointment in the match for me was that I would rather have seen Brodus win by a pin fall and not a count out. With RAW expanding to three hours, the WWE is going to need both of these guys to have better story lines.

Santino Marella vs. Ricardo Rodriguez

Yes, this Tuxedo match made me laugh but was it really necessary at a ppv? With Santino holding The United States Championship belt, it would have been nice to see him in a match with a real contender. I guess they needed to do something with Rodriguez until Del-Rio returns to action.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus

I thought that was one of the better matches on the card. Both men really gave it their all. With Del Rio being injured, I really wanted Dolph to get back on track and start a winning streak. I feel that Dolph is one of the best in the ring and is capable of doing much more than he has done lately. Sheamus has been on fire lately and has won his matches at the last seven ppvs. I would like to see these two continue their feud and give Dolph another opportunity to be the World Heavy Weight Championship. I’m even thinking that Dolph would be a good candidate to win the briefcase at Money in the Bank.

Christian vs. Cody Rhodes

This was one of the best matches of the evening. Cody and Christian had a good rivalry and the match went back and forth for a while. For me, the best part of the match was when Christian put a Killswitch on Cody and then knocked him out with a “SPEAR.” I wonder who that spear was a tribute too? Lol. I like Christian’s character change and it’s good to see the Intercontinental Title once again being an important part of the ppv.

Fatal Four- Way Tag Team Match

I am excited about the new tag teams in the WWE. Kidd and Gabriel, The Usos, Epico and Primo and The Prime Time Players are helping to make the tag team division exciting again. I do think that Hawkins and Rex should have been included in this match as well because they too are very talented. The Prime Time Players seem to be getting a big push as of late. I liked the idea of having them win this tournament to set up a title shot opportunity.

Layla vs. Beth Phenoix

The ladies division is weak right now and Beth and Natayla are really the only two women who are solid, technical wrestlers. I don’t understand why Beth hasn’t regained the title. It would make sense for hold the belt until Kharma returns and they start their feud. Seeing Layla pinning Beth really did not make any sense to me. If Beth is the strongest diva in the division and she loses to Layla, who then will beat Layla?

Sin Cara vs. Hunico

At this point, Sin Cara is appealing to young fans and the WWE is going to use that to their advantage. Sin Cara needs to work on improving his wrestling skills which I can tell he has done but still needs a lot of work. This was one of his better matches. It was more Americanized than Mexican Style. He didn’t botch as many moves and I think he will come in his own very soon. I personally think working with Rey Mysterio will really help him get better in the ring and over with the fans.

Ryback vs. Two Jobbers

I like what creative has done with Ryback’s character. He has a commanding in ring presence. We have seen weeks of him beating up jobbers but now it is time for him to start a real feud. I think he and Cena should give it a go. It might make for an interesting feud.

Punk vs. Kane vs Daniel Bryan

This was by far the best match at the ppv. All three men worked well together. I honestly thought that somehow Daniel Bryan would walk away with the gold. Yes! Yes! Yes! However, I was wrong. No, No, No! LOL!  Both Bryan and Punk have come a long way since their days in Ring of Honor and are doing a wonderful job of electrifying the crowd. How many of you noticed the great tribute to Benoit and Savage in the match? I thought it was awesome.

I am not exactly sure who AJ is with but her role in the matches keeps the story line interesting. Most fans are still very into Punk and I could see he and AJ together. As for the feud, look for it to continue because it is hot at the moment.

Cena vs. Big Show

This was by far a “horrible” ending to the ppv. Having Big Show being scared of Brodus Clay and needing a bunch of wrestlers to help Cena win the match just destroyed the credibility of the match for me. They are making Show out to be a “Monster Heel” but yet all that was spoiled when others came out to help him. I strongly feel that Cena needed to be fired and have time off for a while to sort things out in his personal life and to get a well needed rest. While he is out, others could certainly step up to the plate.

I am not upset that Johnny was fired but it was a terrible way to end it and a terrible way to fire him. Storyline wise, would have made more since with John Cena getting fired than Johnny but hey, i dont write the stuff do i? lol

So, what did you guys think about the ppv? What do you see happening in the next few weeks that will lead up to The Money in the Bank ppv? Leave me some comments. I would like to hear what you guys are thinking.

  2. Hmm . with the exception of a few things being the rivalry with Daniel Bryan, Punk, Kane and AJ, Christian and Cody, and Dolph finally being in the title scene I think everything else needs to be torn down and begun again.

The AJ 'wild card' angle is awesome and gaining respect for female performers. Its wonderful to watch and I hope they leave her a little unhinged well into Survivor Series. Christian and Cody know how to build a sense of true animosity. Hopefully they'll just let them keep it building. I think we can enter into some place where Cody can do some truly twisted things to him. I love Dolph and I hope that his boost to the scene isn't temporary. I've always felt he should be there and he would be a dead on MITB. It could be used to pull Swagger back in as a rivalry for that honor. We're building to it anyway.

I want more story for the women, period. I'm sick of their matches and rivalries not making sense. When Kharma turned up I was soooo excited because her presence had inspired a renewed interest and a different take on the Diva's scene. Not begrudging her personal life choices at all. I was completely on board with her decision. I was more annoyed that her absence seemed to put all of the women on the back burner again.

A lot of what was going on with Cena, and that whole Otunga Johnny Ace bent felt forced. Making Show a monster heel was inspired, yet they still keep missing the angle that gives the whole thing wings. Cena is painfully drama free for a monster face. At no point in time do you believe Cena can lose and that’s the problem. He isn’t tragic enough to develop that empathy which means Show is only half a monster because he can’t pull it out from just his end. Cena needs to be torn down, create a situation where he is backed into a corner. . . he has to lose. And not just lose, he has to be nigh near annihilated. And they have to stick to it for a while. Build this epic loss record, Cena hasn’t won in so many PPVs, break him down, make him pathetic and then let him be built again. He’ll win back all the haters cause he’ll be like us. . people that lose and have to figure it all out again.

All those past great moments of wrestling were made because of one thing. . the aspect of failure. Think of every story that took off and really had weight. They began with someone being stripped of something at the core of human emotion and interest, love, money, power, dignity. But not just stripped, they had a part of themselves ripped away. They had the perfect opening with Show, flawlessly handled, but they didn’t bother to do the same with Cena.

I like the idea of tag teams coming back. I am partial to the Usos because they clearly have their father’s charisma. If they are built right the whole division can revolve around them. They have the intensity, the most fan interest and they feel natural. When they do their thing it doesn’t feel forced. PrimeTime Players feels like CrimeTime light. It is awkward on them because it’s too 20 years ago. If they are supposed to emulate prof. basketball players or football players (I’m assuming they are), then they have to actually act like it. It is emulating a strictly business, precise professionalism that has to feel ice cold in function and delivery. I believe we spent a lot of time talking about the perfect formula for hate that LeBron James was able to build. If he wasn’t as good as he was, no one would’ve bothered to hate him. It was the combination of limitless talent and a perceived lack of morality that did that.

Ok. . let me stop before I really start writing about this. . . I know scary. I can easily go on for another couple of paragraphs.
