Who Went to the Extreme?

Last night was the Annual Extreme Rules for WWE. It was imitated from Chicago Illinois, and on this night the crowd in Chicago was on fire and ready for the WWE to go to the Extreme. In Which , they did and really made for a great PPV.

The Pre Show Match: Santino vs. Miz For the United States Championship.

Now I did not watch this on Youtube, All I seen was what the WWE showed on the PPV. I assumed that Santino would retain and I heard this match was a great match that lasted about 5 mins or so. I heard some fans in attendance said that if it had been on the show, that it would have been a potential show stealer. I do not know about that but those two superstars, I can believe it.

Winner and Still United States Champion: Santino Marella  1 – 0

Last Man Standing Match: Randy Orton vs. Kane

I really thought they did a good job at bringing in the fans to start the show. They really enjoyed the Match and honestly so did I. I thought this was the right type of environment for those two. A Regular match or even a No DQ match wouldn’t have done well. This was a perfect setup and a semi-predictable match. However it was fun to watch. Only thing I had a problem with is, if it’s Falls Count Anywhere, Why end up in the ring and pin him in the ring. I enjoyed the match overall but wasn’t happy with the pin in the ring.

Winner: Randy Orton  2-0

Tables Match: IC Champion Big Show vs Cody Rhodes

Going into this match, I really wanted Cody to win. He needs that title way more than Big Show at this point. I didn’t really like the fact that Big Show won the title. Having him win it for only 3-4 weeks? What was the point? Just for a Mania moment? I get the fact they wanted Show to be able to say he has won every title in the WWE but so did I. I had no idea how they was going to have Show go through a table but I just knew they needed the title back on Cody. I was thinking of throwing a table at Show and him punching it away and the title breaking a bit. I was trying to think of different ways but then Cody Kicked Shows knee and he dropped and his foot went through the table. As soon as I saw it, I said.. Brilliant. I didn’t think the after the match attack was needed but Cody got a Baby face reaction once he got up afterwards, so it makes me wonder what they are going to do with Cody.

Winner and new IC Champion: Cody Rhodes 2-1

Brodus Clay w/Hornswoggle  Vs Dolph Ziggler w/Vickie Guerrero and Jack Swagger

To be honest, I wasn’t happy about this. However if you want to get Brodus over which obviously WWE does want to do. The best person for him to get over with in a 4 min Time period, was and is only Dolph Ziggler. I just hope they do so much more with him. He is so talented. Not much to talk about on this match. I predicted during the PPV that Brodus Would win. Considering it was his first PPV match.

Winner: Brodus Clay w/Hornswoggle 3-1

2 out of 3 Falls World Heayweight Championship Match: Sheamus Vs Daniel Bryan

This match was….simply put…Amazing. I 100% loved this match and thought they put on not only a great match but had a lot of time and showed how great they were. I loved the fact the D-Bryan got DQed for Sheamus to win his first fall because to be honest, with Daniel Bryan so hot, it wouldn’t make any since for him to be pinned twice in 1 match. It took 15 mins to get the first fall. That showed me that the WWE does really think a lot of both men and it kinda made since for me why the mania match happened. To be honest though sheamus, please don’t wear that shirt around any girls lol Daniel bryan wouldn’t be so popular with the crowd if it wasn’t for 1. They screwed him at Wrestlemania and 2. The fact he is just so damn good at what he does. He is the next chris benoit (via wrestling) in my eyes. I loved the Headbutt Attempt; it’s nice to see stuff like that from time to time. I do miss Chris a lot so it just makes me smile when I see the respect of a fellow wrestler in the ring. I wasn’t thrilled with the pro-longed Tap Out (pass out) because on Raw he had no problem but all of a sudden his arm is hurting 10 times worse and then he won’t tap out. He isn’t Steve Austin no offence.  I am very proud of both men and they went out there and gave the fans what they wanted to see.

Winner and Still World Champion: Sheamus  4-1

Divas match: Nikki vs Beth

They announced right before the match that Beth was not cleared to wrestle. Then they said Nikki would still wrestle but it was a surprise opponent. I know a lot of people assumed Kharma but I think they should bring her back in a big way.

Divas Match: Nikki © Vs Layla

I was very happy to see Layla back in the WWE. I saw her at Wrestlemania weekend and she looked great. She did a great job when it came to ring rust. You can tell she has worked a lot to get back in the shape she is in. I honestly got excited cause I thought it Michelle. I was just fine with Layla, she looked great.

Winner and new Divas’s Champion: Layla 5-1

Two local Jobbers vs Ryback

I was very disappointed in putting this on a PPV. It did make him look strong though. Thought it was funny people were chanting “Goldberg” though.

Winner: Ryback 6-1

Chicago Street Fight – WWE Championship

CM Punk Vs. Chris Jericho

Punk and Jericho really took things to the “Extreme” last night. That was one hell of a brutal match! They used kendo sticks, the exposed turn buckle and the announcer’s table to badly punish one another which told a great story. And by the way if you think that wrestling is just “pure” entertainment, look at this picture….

Both men did an awesome job of connecting with the crowd. Jericho got the crowd to hate him lol and nobody does this better than Chris. Punk got the crowd behind him as he was defending his family’s honor.  I also think that having Punk’s sister at ringside to support him made the crowd even more emotional and of course pro Punk. Even though they didn’t need it due to being in Chicago but it just added extra emotion to even the fans threw the TV.

At the end of the match, it didn’t make a difference to me who won. The fans were very into the match and both Punk and Chris did a great job of entertaining us. The Jericho Punk rivalry has brought new energy to wrestling. I look forward to seeing the two of them square off against one another again very soon!  After the match and how it went about, these two have such great chemistry that they are far from being over. I hope I am right too, because having Chris and Punk go against each other is good for business. Both brought their “A” game and it was a fabulous match.

Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena – No DQ Match

Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena Extreme Rules 2012 results
Brock Lesnar has not been inside a WWE ring for eight years. However, you would not know it by watching his match against John Cena. Lesnar incorporated many moves from the UFC into his offense and gave Cena one hell of a beating. Cena got busted open early and took an enormous amount of punishment. However, at the end of match, we saw the old John Cena return.  Cena showed a lot of heart and I believe the crowd actually liked him. I give both men a lot of credit. They worked their asses off!
Bringing Brock back to the WWE was clearly a good move for the business. Brock is able to work a crowd and is the heel who everyone loves to hate. Brock has created a lot of excitement in the WWE and makes people want to watch him weekly, including me. I am sure that Brock will have some major story lines on RAW for a while. I truly feel that match is going to bring great things to the WWE. The goal was to bring the old Cena fans back and them to hate brock even more. It worked like a string being hung over an animal. The fans in Chicago really hated Cena at first, it was more of 60/40 crowd. By the end of the night, everyone was pro cena. It was a great environment and really brought a “real” feel to the WWE. Brock is an animal but his new cage is the WWE Ring. I am just so excited to see where this takes both men. As of right now, It looks like Brock vs HHH which I am thrilled about. We also havnt seen the last of Brock/Cena. Congrats to both guys and I give it 4 ½ stars. It takes a lot to get everyone totally invested like those guys did at Extreme Rules.

Thanks as always for reading my thoughts and to be honest, the few matches I did get wrong, it turns out I am proud to have been wrong. The WWE did a great job and really gave the fans something to enjoy for years to come. If you are anti Cena or anti Brock. Instead of trying to be anti or pro against these superstars, just sit back and enjoy the ride they are both about to give you. No Matter what your views on UFC (I myself am not a big fan) but it is still a Sport like we give you. Only difference is its an Art Form and they are fighting. Brock coming out in his UFC Stuff really brought a new atmosphere to the WWE that has been needed for a while. Regardless of your views for him, Brock is a Wrestler and he is a fighter. Same as John Cena and everyone else who puts their life on the line to entertain you. Thank you so much for reading and please comment.

Thanks,
Adam
The Next PPV is Over the Limit on May 20th 2012. The Main Event is going to be:
CM Punk (C) Vs Daniel Bryan

If that match alone doesn't sell this ppv, then you need to figure out why exactly you like Wrestling lol. Thanks very much everyone. Until Next time.....

  1. Great thoughts and opinions, as usual, Adam.

I didn't see the Santino Marella-Miz pre-ppv youtube.com match but, I assumed that Santino would win, considering Miz hasn't been relevant at all recently.

I was OK with the surprise Brodus Clay-Dolph Ziggler match. I assumed that the Funkasaurus was going to win.
And BTW, Adam, this was Brodus Clay's second ppv match. His first was at the Royal Rumble against Drew McIntyre.

I was surprised though, by the surprise Ryback match. Him vs 2 jobbers? Really? On ppv?
Why not have him face an actual WWE Superstar at this point? If the WWE wanted to continue the Ryback vs jobbers in the coming weeks, then fine but, at the ppv, have him face off against someone like Alex Riley or Derrick Bateman or JTG. Not 2 jobbers. C'mon, WWE!

As far as the rest of the ppv and my thoughts and opinions on the matches and results, you already read those in my day-after WWE Extreme Rules facebook status.

    Have a great rest-of-the-week, Adam!
